South America Report

Just got back from Bogota, Colombia where I attended my nephew’s baptism. Got to go back to “Manolo’s Hobbies”, the place where I bought the card model of the Colombian Air Force DC-3 that I based my big Depron model on. It rained all weekend so I didn’t get to get any R/C flying in but we passed the time with sightseeing and “Aguardiente”, pretty much fire water and Colombia’s national drink. Upon trying to exit the country I was informed I had entered the country illegally as I had no entry stamp/visa (I absentmindedly went with the CAL crew I jumpseated with thru the crew line and the DAS agent didn’t stamp my passport. I was in uniform and she asssumed I was working. Ooops!) When I tried to pay my exit taxes things got kinda heated as they kept demanding to know how this Gringo slipped into the country without the proper documentation. I realized this was a bad situation as I thought back to a time in this country that undocumented Gringo pilots roaming around down here were flying for notorious and unsavory people, a not so distant past. Anyway, I slipped out after some wrangling (no bribes!) and made it back to PHX yesterday. I did buy a card model of a Vtail Bonanza that I’m gonna use in a future project. Got it at Manolo’s.
